Libra= Peace and love. Really??!
Going deeper
Astrology beginners are taught that Libra is the sign of love and peace, arts and beauty. It is the diurnal domicile of Venus. This all sounds great, who wouldn’t like to have his or her Ascendant in Libra! Of course we also learned about the negative side of Libra: the difficulty in decision making, or rather the perennial state of indecision. Try to sit with a Libra person in a restaurant when it comes to decide what to pick from the menu.
But besides these usual associations there are two details to consider. The first is that Libra is actually a male sign., Every planet (except the luminaries) have a male (diurnal) and a female (nocturnal) domicile). Venus’ nocturnal domicile is Taurus.
Now, female planets (Moon and Venus) have a passive, reactive rather than acting quality. Just think of the Moon: she reflects the Sun’s light. Does this mean she is weaker than the Sun? Not really. She filters the Sun’s light, dims it so down, makes it more comfortable but still illuminates our nights. Without the dimming, our biological system would be in a continuous state of overheating or burn-out.
We cannot just be active 24h. We need to slow down, take it easy, reset ourselves. Sleep. Without this part of our daily life, we get ill. The passive property is just as important as the active one. Venus is considered to be the planet of love. Make no mistake: passivity is not laziness. It is about receiving. Making love is all about giving AND receiving. If one cannot receive, s/he cannot enjoy.
Male planets in female signs can feel slowed down, retarded, as if driving with the brakes on. The passive energy does not suit them. However, in the male sign of Libra they are usually better off than female planets. They are active in this sign, can initiate and push forward. They do not need to hold back. The energy is free to flow out. For good or bad, of course.
Male signs such as Libra represent some kind of pro-active environment . They stimulate, act and initiate. Male planets are doing well here: Just think how Mars can start his mischief in a male sign such as Aries. A new war: fight for your rights! Get it done! Or Saturn, after years of study and privation, finally masters to crack the code of an ancient language. Or Jupiter who was initiated to greater wisdom and now can lead his followers to enlightenment.
Female signs represent a passive space. They slow things down. The mic is off, the headphones are on. Listen. Feel. React. Respond. Trust. The Moon’s and Venus’s natural properties are strengthened in these signs. They enjoy the environment and feel safe.
But back to Libra. A female planet in Libra (in particular in a diurnal chart) can feel uneasy. This is because the warm and cosy passivity, which gives the planet time to think, reflect and then come up with an answer or reaction, is just not there. A female planet in a diurnal sign has to act NOW. The native can therefore feel pushed in the areas that Libra represents. It can be like driving before having a license. No time to sleep over it.
Back to our restaurant scene. The Moon in Libra wants to enjoy the meal, but there are so many options, so little time. And what happens now is that this little Moony gets the red card from the guy (or girl) sitting on the other side of the table. Enough is enough! Time out! Break-up NOW!
The peace- loving native is often involved in quarrels, fights or even war. There is dissatisfaction. Nothing is ever as perfect as dreamt of. This can make one angry. And then there is the nasty 7th house opposition of Aries. Of course it is always the other one who started it! Never the poor Libra. Not the Libra who drove his or her partner mad; never taking a stand, never having a different opinion, never being up for a real discussion. Everything neatly swept under the rug.
But what is under the rug, sooner or later will come out. Indeed, Libra is not a passive sign. It is active and specialized in stretching. Libra tends to stretch things. A little bit more. And still a bit more. But then comes the surprise. BOOOM! How could it break?!
